What's the difference between Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes?
Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes differ mainly in their causes and onset. Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune condition where the body attacks and destroys insulin-producing cells, usually appearing in childhood or adolescence. In contrast, Type 2 diabetes is often linked to lifestyle factors, such as obesity and inactivity, and typically develops in adulthood. While both involve issues with insulin, Type 1 requires insulin injections for survival, whereas Type 2 may be managed with lifestyle changes, oral medications, and sometimes insulin.
